As an enticing, paradisaical Spanish island set out in the Atlantic Ocean, you can imagine that Tenerife handles its fair share of air traffic. In fact, it has not one but two major airports which welcome flights from the rest of the Canary Islands, from mainland Spain, and from a wide range of international destinations.
The North Tenerife Airport, located a mere 11 kilometers from Tenerife's capital, Santa Cruz, is the older of the two airports and handles island, national and international flights. In addition, it's the place to go if you're looking to take a heart-pumping plunge from an airplane with the Tenerife Aerial Club. However, with the rise of tourist resorts along the southern beaches, the newer South Tenerife - Queen Sofía Airport, situated in Granadilla de Abona, is the busier of the two and handles the bulk of Tenerife's international flights. Both airports offer access to the island's extensive bus system, run by the Titsa bus company, which connects the airports both to each other and to towns and cities throughout the Tenerife.
